531Trip Working”. Article by David Stewart-David. After defining trip working our author describes his observations from the late 1940's through the 50s and 60s. The article has 6 pages and 11 photographs, some in colour. The photographs include one of G2A 49209 at Patricroft in October 1961.

The article comprises a brief history of the junction and the author’s reminiscences of his work in redesigning the junction in 1957, whilst working in the London Midland Region Civil Engineer’s Department.

538Sharp’s of Manchester” (Part 1) . Article by Michael Rutherford. The growth of the Manchester school of locomotive design is described, with 10 pages, 11 photographs and 5 drawings. The illustrations include locomotives used by the Liverpool and Manchester and L&NW Railways, particularly the Sharp long-boilered 0-6-0 built for the MS&LR and tested with a 101 wagon, 597 ton train over the L&NWR between Longsight and Crewe, and Alexandra Docks no. 7 ‘Pontypridd’, rebuilt by the L&NWR as an 0-6-2ST from a Southern Division long-boilered 0-6-0 and said to be the prototype for the ‘Coal Tanks’.

539LNWR Prize Cattle Van”. Article by D. T. Dowling. A two page article about the construction of a 7mm scale model. It includes drawings and other historical information including numbers, two prototype photographs from 1954 and three photographs of the model.
