Portpatrick and Wigtownshire Joint Railway A single line branch from Castle Douglas (on the Glasgow and South Western branch line from Dumfries to Kirkudbright) to Stranraer and Portpatrick, jointly owned by the London and North Western, Caledonian, Glasgow and South Western and Midland Railways. Though only a twig off a branch, the line was important because Stranraer offered the short sea route to Northern Ireland (via Larne).
