|Caprotti Valve Gear||Type of steam locomotive valve gear utilizing poppet type valves. Invented by the Italian engineer, Arturo Caprotti, it was claimed to improve engine efficiency. It was first tried in the UK on an LNWR Claughton Class locomotive in 1926. In practice it proved hard to maintain and was not as efficient as long-travel piston valves.|
